Searcher Syntax

Synopsis

This search engine takes words entered and strings them together with and statements, unless an and, or, or not is specified. The search is case-insensitive. To match two words right next to one another, join them with a -. Nested parantheses are also supported.

Examples of Use

computer IBM
Matches all computers that are also IBMs.
computers not IBM
Matches all computers that are not IBMs.
computer not (IBM or (Apple not Mac))
Matches all computers that are not IBMs or Apples, with the exception of Macs.
Fred-Jones
Matches Fred Jones if the two words follow one another. For instance, it would not match in the text: Fred went to the store with Jones.
(World-wide-web or WWW) and (httpd not (Apache or CERN) not 1.4)
All together. You'll probably notice that the parans after the first and really aren't needed. These are just for ease of reading and don't change the meaning of the search.
WWW and shell or perl
Common error. Because there are no parans, this will be interpreted as (WWW and shell) or perl. It groups left-to-right unless told otherwise with parans.
